Has anybody noticed that television adverts have suddenly got longer, they must be atleast 3 minutes long these days. On some channels, UKTV Gold for example, a 30 minute programme is edited so much, i think to cram adverts in, that it ends up being about 20 minutes long with about 7-9 minutes of adverts either end and inbetween..
WHY?
We all know which washing powder we like, we dont care that one of them now gets your whites even whiter, we all like the tea we buy, everybody is aware of baked beans.. Why do we need to see these things advertised?
One year we are told that a washing powder gets the whites whiter but didnt they say that about the previous powder? They enjoy brainwashing us and its sad to think that many of us rush out on the orders of an advert to buy these items.
We all know that adverts pay for a station to run but come on, surely the onus should be on the programme content not which adverts can be crammed in for peak time viewers or which is the biggest advertiser that can be attracted. Its all about money these days rather than decent entertainment for us hard working people to enjoy...
Please feel free to add your comments or email me examples of advert breaks being too long and i will name and shame them for you.

It's why free view is free so they can advertise stuff at us till we vomit.
The why is that advertising works. I bought some Gu puds from Tesco the other day purely because I was seduced by the recent ad campaign.
What are Gu Puds? I do not have any problem with advertising for new or little known products but well known brands should be limited and ad breaks between programmes should be fixed at a certain length.. ie 2 mins.....?
